TheSouth African Weather Service(Saws) has released its latest weather forecast for Wednesday, 30 April 2025.

Saws warns of disruptive rain in parts of KwaZulu-Natal, where damage to mud-built houses is expected. Very cold, wet and windy weather conditions are also expected in parts of the Northern and Western Capes. Here’s what you need to know.

Weather warnings, Wednesday, 30 April

Impact-based warnings

Theweather servicehas issued a yellow level 2 warning for disruptive rain leading to localised flooding of settlements and roads in the extreme north-eastern parts of KwaZulu Natal. Damage to mud-built houses is expected.

A yellow level 1 warning has also been issued for severe thunderstorms leading to large amounts of small hail over open areas, as well as localised flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges in the southern parts of the Northern Cape.

Advisories

Very cold, wet and windy conditions are expected over the southern Namakwa district of the Northern Cape as well as the Cape Winelands, Central Karoo and Little Karoo municipalities of the Western Cape.

Provincial weather forecast

Here’s what to expect in your province on Wednesday, 30 April:

Gauteng:

Residents of Gauteng can expect partly cloudy and cool but warm weather conditions in the extreme north.

The region’s expected UVB sunburn index is “high”.

Residents should take the necessary precautions against prolonged sun exposure.

Mpumalanga:

Mpumalanga residents will experience morning fog along the escarpment, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers in the east.

Limpopo:

The day will start with morning fog along the escarpment, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and cool to warm.

North West:

Partly cloudy, windy and cool to warm weather awaits North West residents, with isolated showers and thundershowers over the western parts.

Free State:

Residents of the Free State will experience partly cloudy, windy and cool to warm conditions, with isolated showers and thundershowers over the western parts.

Northern Cape:

The day will start with morning fog along the coast, otherwise it will be partly cloudy to cloudy, windy and cool to warm, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers, but scattered over the central and the southern parts.

Western Cape:

Western Cape residents can expect cloudy and cool to cold weather with isolated showers and rain but scattered over the central and eastern parts.

The region’s expected UVB sunburn index is “high”.

Residents should take the necessary precautions against prolonged sun exposure.

Eastern Cape (western half):

Cloudy and cool weather conditions await Eastern Cape residents, with scattered showers and rain, but widespread in the extreme west. Thundershowers are expected in the north.

Eastern Cape (eastern half):

The day will be cloudy and warm with scattered showers and rain, but isolated in the east. It will be cool in the extreme west.

KwaZulu-Natal:

Residents of KwaZulu-Natal can expect morning fog patches over the interior, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers except over the north-western parts. It will be cloudy with scattered showers and rain in the northeast in the morning.
